Development of management during the crisis? Yes!

The 23rd CEEMAN Annual conference “Localization vs. Globalization of Management Development in Dynamic Societies” took place in Almaty on 23 – 26 September 2015. The organizers of this conference are CEEMAN (Slovenia) and Almaty Management University (former IAB, Almaty).

At the first glance, the theme of the conference is blurred and makes us doubt in its relevance to the current moment. However, if look attentively it seems clearer that, Kazakhstan crucially needs a new view, including today’s economic situation.

Let’s start from the notion of DYNAMIC SOCIETIES, DS. This is more modern and right notion of what we called earlier “developing countries”, “transit economy countries”. Singapore as well as Kazakhstan can be called DS, but for instance China not.

LOCALIZATION or GLOBALIZATION? This question is one of the crucial for today. If 10 years ago the importance of globalization was clear, today it is not so simple. The time has shown that there will be no leaders in the world, that every country has a right to live, to think and to develop differently.

MANGEMENT development. It does not matter how much money and clever heads you have. All of it is useless without a good management. The country cannot have a progress without management development – especially it becomes the crucial issue during the crisis, when there is the necessity to find resources and new opportunities.

The conference discussed global issues such as the development of entrepreneurship, innovation, management; the effect of the balance of globalization and localization on management and leadership; management development in line with the challenges and needs of business and society.

More than 150 representatives of 39 countries participated in the conference: heads of universities and business schools, representatives of businesses (KPMG Kazakhstan, Raimbek Group, Kusto Group, McKinsey Kazakhstan and many others), state organizations, diplomatic missions in Kazakhstan and international organizations.

The speakers of the 23rd CEEMAN conference are: Jean-Pierre Lehmann, Founder of Evian group in Switzerland; Renaud Chamonal, President of  the Association of French business circles in Kazakhstan (ACFAK), the president of the company “Danone Berkut”; Dipak Jane, Director of Sasin Graduate Institute of Business, Thailand; Helmut Schutte, Vice-president and Dean of Chinese-European International Business School, China (CEIBS); Xiaobo Wu, Dean of the School of Management, Zhejiang University, China; Jose Luis Abreu, President and Rector of Spent University, Mexico; Mel Horwitch, Dean of Central European University Business School, Hungary; Irina Sennikova, Vice-president of CEEMAN, Rector of Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration, Latvia (RISEBA);  and others.

Moreover, within the 23rd CEEMAN conference Kazakhstan Association for Management Development (KAMAN) and foreign organizations are welcome to become a member of the Association.
